While Maryland’s two Democratic Senate contenders, Reps. Chris Van Hollen (D-08) and Donna Edwards (D-04) are each fighting to appease liberal groups on Social Security protection, their potential primary competition, Rep. John Delaney (D-06), paired up with Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK 04) to take a more centrist approach.

Delaney and Cole’s “legislation would require an eventual up or down vote by Congress to save the trust fund,” and “create a congressional commission, which along with the president, would develop recommendations for legislation.”

Delaney said he believes “fixing the system will require new funding sources, and not simply restricting benefits.” (Cumberland Times-News)
