Citizens United Spending $200,000 on Pro-Lee Ads

A GOP poll found his favorability at 73% among Republicans.

“Citizens United is spending $200,000 on a series of TV, radio and web ads supporting Sen. Mike Lee (R) that will run through April 27. “¦ The ads tout Lee as ‘an innovative leader’ for unveiling a conservative agenda that includes a broader accreditation system for higher education, tax tweaks to benefit parents and more state control of roads.” (Salt Lake Tribune)

NUMBERS: A Utah Policy poll conducted by Dan Jones & Associates (R) found Lee’s favorability at 56-30%. Among Republicans, his favorability was 73-14% (March 30-April 7, 601 RVs, +/- 4.0%). (Utah Policy)

MONEY: “Lee raised over $800,000 in the first quarter of 2015.” (Politico)

STAFF: “Lee’s former chief of staff, Boyd Matheson, has returned to the role after the recent resignation of Neil Ashdown, who was a top aide to former Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. (R).” Ashdown initially stepped last month for personal reasons, but “said he hoped the situation would only be temporary.”

Matheson was “a senior adviser on both Lee’s senior staff and campaign,” brought on at a time when a primary challenge looked more likely for Lee. (KSL)
