“Rep. Donna F. Edwards (D-04) is facing criticism from Maryland’s Jewish community for votes she has taken on Israel during her tenure in the House.” Edwards “has repeatedly opposed broadly bipartisan resolutions supporting Israel, or voted ‘present.’” Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-08) “supported most of the resolutions at issue.”

“A headline in the Baltimore Jewish Times recently described Edwards and Van Hollen as ‘vastly different candidates.’”

Arthur C. Abramson, executive director of the Baltimore Jewish Council said “there have been concerns about [Edwards’] support for the Jewish state.”

Edwards responded to criticism saying she “has voted to support millions in security funding for Israel, including legislation passed in August to provide $225 million for a missile defense system.” She also “reiterated her support for a two-state solution to the conflict between Palestinians and Israelis.” (Baltimore Sun)

ENDORSEMENTS: Edwards received two endorsements of Montgomery County officials, former County Executive Doug Duncan (D) and state Sen. Karen Montgomery (D).

Duncan: “Donna has a strong history of standing with Montgomery County families on economic fairness, environmental stewardship, and strengthening retirement programs for our seniors. Her experiences and values make her a principled, progressive fighter with a unique, proven record of improving the lives of working families.” (release)
