“Rep. Joe Heck (R-03) is getting closer to a bid for” Senate, “a development that could effectively clear the primary field and make the race very competitive “¦ multiple sources” say “he is almost there, although no commitments yet.”

One Republican familiar with Heck’s thinking said: “Nevada and national leaders have made a compelling case that Congressman Heck is the only Republican that can clear a primary. I think the NRSC and Heck’s political team have made the case that he is in strong position to win. Any hesitation at this point seems to be related to family … and military (he is a brigadier general) commitments. Expect” Gov. Brian Sandoval (R), Sen. Dean Heller (R-NV), Reps. Mark Amodei (R-02), and Cresent Hardy (R-04) “to be in lock-step. They all want to avoid a messy primary and right now they seem to all be encouraging Heck to be the guy.” (Ralston Reports)

HEAT IS ON: “Democrats last week launched a multipronged attack on” Heck “and his involvement in a Capitol Hill fight over credit loans to members of the military.” The DCCC “paid for digital ads and sent mailers into Heck’s Henderson-based district, saying the appeal was aimed particularly at military families.” They charge that he “sided with predatory lenders over soldiers in a provision he pushed as chairman of the House military personnel subcommittee.” (Las Vegas Review-Journal)
