Brady Says He’s All In for McGinty

He turned the race down three times, and says former Rep. Patrick Murphy did too.

July 9, 2015, 6:18 a.m.

If Gov. Tom Wolf’s (D) chief of staff, Katie McGinty (D), “runs for Senate, she has at least one big supporter locked down: [Rep.] Bob Brady (D), Philadelphia’s Democratic chairman, said he is ‘100% in her corner’ and told her so Wednesday.” He “emphatically backed McGinty “¦ as a superior candidate to [former Rep.] Joe Sestak (D). … Brady said the vast majority of Pennsylvania Democrats in Congress would prefer McGinty over their former colleague.”

“[Brady] said he spoke to McGinty about the possibility of her running Wednesday, though he cautioned that he doesn’t expect her to decide until after Wolf and Harrisburg Republicans resolve their standoff over the state budget.”

“Brady said officials at the [DSCC] had even gauged his interest in running — checking with him on three occasions and running a poll — but that he turned them down. ‘No means no,’ Brady said.”

“Brady said they also checked in with former Bucks County Congressman Patrick Murphy, but that he also declined to run.”

Brady: “I told her I would support her fully. Honorary campaign manager, anything she needed me to do. “¦ Whatever I could do, I would help her. “¦ Sestak has a little bit of a track record that’s not honorable with a lot of us. “¦ It’s his own free thinking ways of doing things. Well, we’re free thinking too, and we’re free thinking Katie McGinty. “¦ I think without question she would win the primary.” (Philadelphia Enquirer)

GONE IN 60 SECONDS: “Mike Fleck, a powerful Democratic operative” who was managing the now-suspended campaign of Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski (D), “was preparing to leave Allentown on Wednesday, six days after abruptly folding his H Street Strategies. “¦ Fleck, 39, has not been publicly seen since Thursday. His cellphone has been disconnected.”

“On Thursday, FBI agents served a search warrant on Allentown City Hall. They spent several hours gathering city documents and interviewing city workers, including” Pawlowski. (Allentown Morning Call)
