Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) endorsed former gubernatorial chief of staff Katie McGinty (D) in her three-way Democratic primary, focusing on Pennsylvania’s history of never having sent a woman to the Senate.

In a fundraising email, Murray wrote: “I was the first female senator ever elected from Washington state, and I certainly understand the challenges women face in politics today. … I know the difference women can make when we get involved and fight to make a difference. … Katie is running to become the first female senator from Pennsylvania, and I’m supporting her because I need her help in Washington.” (release)
