The 1-Star Amazon Reviews of ‘Hard Choices’ Are In and They’re As Unhinged as You’d Expect

Compared with the five-star reviews, the one-star ones are a lot more, er, colorful.

Hillary Clinton is a polarizing figure. So when she releases an autobiography, opinions on said book are going to diverge. This is especially true with her book release now, seeing as many are interpreting the media blitz surrounding the book to be a test run for a 2016 campaign.

On Amazon.com, as of this writing, there are 19 five-star, perfect reviews of Hard Choices. And then there are 44 one-star reviews. (The most popular line being “should be listed as fiction.” Zing.) There are only six reviews in between those extremes.

It’s amazing that this 656-page book was released just hours ago, and there are 69 total reviews. Speedy readers!

Compared with the five-star reviews, the one-star ones are a lot more, er, colorful. Here are the best of them. Some have been cut down for space.

Of course, as this is about Clinton, we start with a conspiracy theory.

Seriously, when do we find out who killed Vincent Foster?

Doesn’t really get the concept of a review. That is, commenting on a book you have actually read.

Disappointed that her autobiographical novel left out a section on her lies.

This one is just plain unhinged.

How could the reader not know the book is (probably) a 2016 launching pad?

Of course, as this is about Clinton, we start with a conspiracy theory.

What the Current Crop of Candidates Could Learn from JFK

WHY WE CARE

Much has been made of David Brooks’s recent New York Times column, in which confesses to missing already the civility and humanity of Barack Obama, compared to who might take his place. In NewYorker.com, Jeffrey Frank reminds us how critical such attributes are to foreign policy. “It’s hard to imagine Kennedy so casually referring to the leader of Russia as a gangster or a thug. For that matter, it’s hard to imagine any president comparing the Russian leader to Hitler [as] Hillary Clinton did at a private fund-raiser. … Kennedy, who always worried that miscalculation could lead to war, paid close attention to the language of diplomacy.”

Maher Weighs in on Bernie, Trump and Palin

WHY WE CARE

“We haven’t seen a true leftist since FDR, so many millions are coming out of the woodwork to vote for Bernie Sanders; he is the Occupy movement now come to life in the political arena.” So says Bill Maher in his Hollywood Reporter cover story (more a stream-of-consciousness riff than an essay, actually). Conservative states may never vote for a socialist in the general election, but “this stuff has never been on the table, and these voters have never been activated.” Maher saves most of his bile for Donald Trump and Sarah Palin, writing that by nominating Palin as vice president “John McCain is the one who opened the Book of the Dead and let the monsters out.” And Trump is picking up where Palin left off.
