Sen. Rand Paul (R) will head to Charlotte Monday to campaign for fellow physician and tea party choice Greg Brannon (R), alongside radio host Mark Levin at the NASCAR Hall of Fame. The rally is just a day before the state’s May 6 primary. FreedomWorks has also planned a weekend “Get Out the Vote” for Brannon, who trails state House speaker Thom Tillis (R) in the polls. Tillis needs 40% of the primary vote to avoid a runoff, something polls indicate is increasingly possible he could achieve. (Charlotte Observer/ United Liberty)

ENDORSEMENT TRACKER: Rep. Renee Elmers (R) endorsed Tillis in the primary. Elmers is up against a primary challenge herself against Brannon-allied radio host Frank Roche. (Raleigh News & Observer)

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) made his endorsement for Tillis official Thursday. In a statement, Bush said he was “confident that the road to a majority runs through Thom Tillis in North Carolina.”

BY THE NUMBERS: By Wednesday evening, just over 5,000 early ballots had been cast in the primary race. (News & Record)
