Obama Won't Give Boehner an Xbox

With no progress on fiscal policy, President Obama deployed a host of pop-culture references Tuesday in a bid to get Republicans to budge on the debt ceiling. But before he finished speaking, conservatives and journalists made it clear that the rhetorical flair would not break the deadlock.

Obama attempted to criticize the congressional Republican tactic of tying Obamacare and other policy initiates to reopening the government or raising the debt ceiling. The president, trying to connect with younger voters or the broader public, said:

Think about it this way: The American people do not get to demand a ransom for doing their jobs. You don't get a chance to call your bank and say I'm not going to pay my mortgage this month unless you throw in a new car and an Xbox.

 

Immediately, several political types on Twitter jumped on this reference:

 

Maybe they're just fans of the PlayStation 4.
