John Podesta, who is soon joining the White House as a senior counselor, caused a stir Wednesday morning when a Politico story quoted him as saying that the White House needs to "focus on executive action given that they are facing a second term against a cult worthy of Jonestown in charge of one of the houses of Congress."
House Speaker John Boehner's press secretary, Brendan Buck, went off on Podesta for comparing the Jonestown cult and the House GOP, saying that "if this is the attitude of the new White House, it's hard to see how the president gets anything done again."
The issue really isn't too complicated to figure out. Here's the one chart that shows exactly why Podesta is wrong.
For his part, Podesta has publicly apologized for the comment, adding that he has always respected Boehner.
