‘Ready for Hillary’ Slate Sweeps D.C. Elections

The pro-Clinton candidates credit enthusiasm about a potential presidential run for their win.

Stacks of 'Ready For Hillary' bumper stickers are seen at the Super PAC offices working on behalf of undeclared US Presidential candidate and former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton July 11, 2013 in a shopping center office in Alexandria, Virginia. The 'Ready For Hillary' Super PAC has already mailed out 50,000 'Ready For Hillary' bumper stickers to potential financial donors. The Super PAC is sending out I-Phone buttons, lapel buttons, bumper stickers, t-shirts, hats, and other promotional items.

Hillary Clinton just won an election, more than a year and a half out from the start of the 2016 presidential contest.

A slate of candidates running on their enthusiasm for a potential Clinton presidential bid swept the field in Tuesday’s District of Columbia Democratic primary, winning all four posts in which their candidates competed.

The candidates from the D.C. Ready for Hillary slate won two slots to represent Washington on the Democratic National Committee, and two alternate positions.

MaryEva Candon, who won her race to be on the Democratic National Committee, credits the former secretary of State with the win. “It’s a huge win for Hillary! We have all been involved and people know us here, but it was the association with wanting Hillary to run in 2016 that made for the overwhelming vote,” Candon told National Journal. “I think it’s a Hillary story, I don’t think it’s our individuals who are the story.”

The Ready for Hillary slate won handily over two others, the progressive Rent Is Too Darn High and the more establishment Democrats Moving Forward slates. The slate has no affiliation with the Ready for Hillary super PAC, which is working to build grassroots support for a potential Clinton candidacy.

Arrington Dixon, a former D.C. council member, won the other slot on the national commitee. DNC members play a key role in setting the rules of presidential primaries, and the Ready for Hillary slate ran on their desire to help Clinton if she runs in 2016.
