Arkansas Rep. Tom Cotton raised just over $1 million in the third fundraising quarter, according to FEC documents obtained by National Journal, giving the expected Republican Senate nominee against Sen. Mark Pryor roughly $1.8 million on hand as he begins his campaign.

Cotton, a freshman congressman who began his Senate campaign in early August, has raised $2.22 million so far this cycle. He had about $1 million on hand to before the most recent fundraising quarter.

The haul bolsters Cotton's reputation as one of the strongest Republican Senate candidates for next year's midterm elections. Pryor raised $1 million in the third quarter, according to Politico, and ended September with $4.4 million cash on hand.

Pryor is considered the most vulnerable Democratic Senate incumbent. And Cotton is one of the few GOP Senate nominees who doesn't face a primary challenge before moving on to the general election -- his campaign is already airing TV ads attacking Pryor.

Cotton spent $311,000 in the last quarter, according to his FEC report.
