Canadian Group: Pipelines Safer Than Trains, Trucks

Keystone XL advocates may be adding a new argument to their case following the release Thursday of a report on oil transportation.

Worker safety, reports The Hill, is far better on pipelines than other modes of transportation.

The study, conducted by Canada's conservative-leaning Fraser Institute, found that rates of injury were 30 times lower among pipeline workers than rail workers and 37 times lower than those who transport oil by truck.

The report, using U.S. Department of Transportation data, also found that spill risks are lower for pipelines.
