A Patriot Advanced Capability 3 interceptor hit a simulated short-range ballistic missile in a Thursday trial at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, contractor Lockheed Martin said.

The first of two fired PAC-3 interceptors struck the mock weapon, and a second “self-destructed on command, as planned,” the defense-industry giant said.

Lockheed Martin recently won a $308 million deal to produce PAC-3 system components for the United States, as well as for Kuwait, which is now the antimissile unit’s sixth foreign buyer.
