State Rep. Bill O’Brien (R) announced Friday’s that he will not run for the seat. “O’Brien told WMUR he will take a job in the private sector instead, but didn’t say what that was. It is unclear whether he will run for re-election to the New Hampshire House.” (WMUR)

This isn’t necessarily bad news for Republicans hoping to win back Rep. Ann McLane Kuster’s (D) seat. O’Brien had struggled to raise money since announcing he was exploring a campaign, and the conservative and controversial former state House speaker wasn’t viewed as an ideal candidate to run against Kuster. Former state Sen. Gary Lambert (R) is still exploring a bid.
