Former TV reporter Alan Cohn (D) plans to announce on Thursday that he’s running against Rep. Dennis Ross (R). Cohn is a former investigative reporter at WFTS-TV “who has occasionally filed reports for ABC News as a freelancer. … But WFTS let him go in June 2012 with no public explanation; Cohn said then and now he doesn’t know why they ended his employment. He created a company, AMC Productions, which has developed promotional videos for the state’s tourism office and Tampa’s Chamber of Commerce.”

Cohn said he hopes some of the notoriety he gained as a TV reporter will help him in his congressional bid. Cohn: “We’re all frustrated by the gridlock in Washington. That’s not who we are.” (Tampa Bay Times)

Rep. Dennis Ross (R) ran unopposed in 2012, though Mitt Romney only won 53% of the vote in the district.
