State Sen. Jack Hatch (D) officially announced his “long anticipated” candidacy Monday morning. Hatch “sought to position himself as a populist defender of Iowa’s working poor and middle classes, promising to reinvigorate neighborhood and small town economies and raise the minimum wage.” Hatch: “I will keep fighting the big guy on behalf of the little guy everywhere, anywhere, all of the time.”

More Hatch, on Gov. Terry Branstad (R): “This is no time to surrender to the status quo of a governor whose only goal is to be the longest-serving governor in America’s history. … Our governor and our government needs to fight for the middle class of this state.” (Des Moines Register)
