“Monday marked the first day county election officials could begin to count votes. The Colorado Secretary of State’s office reported that roughly 40,000 voters returned ballots in the first week, a fraction of the expected total this year with open contests for governor and other statewide posts on the Democratic and Republican tickets.”

In a poll released Monday by Magellan Strategies, state Treasurer Walker Stapleton (R) led by double-digits with 36 percent (June 6-7; 593 LVs; +/- 4%). Former State Rep. Victor Mitchell “received 23 percent support with former Parker Mayor Greg Lopez at 10 percent and first-time candidate and businessman Doug Robinson at 4 percent.”

On the Democratic side, Rep. Jared Polis (D) led former state Treasurer Cary Kennedy (D), 31-18 percent, in another poll conducted by Magellan Strategies (May 30-31; 503 LVs; +/- 4%). Former state Sen. Mike Johnston (D) followed with 9 percent, while 39 percent were undecided. (Denver Post)
