Trevino to Face Ortiz Jones in Runoff

The Club for Growth backed candidates in the race for Hensarling’s and Barton’s seats.

Teacher Rick Trevino (D) notched the second spot in the runoff against Rep. Will Hurd (R), besting former Obama appointee Judy Canales (D) by 672 votes. Former Air Force intelligence officer Gina Ortiz Jones (D) took first place with 41 percent of the vote. (Texas Secretary of State)

ENDORSEMENT. The Club For Growth waded into two primary runoffs, backing former Jeb Hensarling campaign manager Bunni Pounds (R) in the race to replace retiring Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-TX 05) and Tarrant County Tax Assessor-Collector Ron Wright in the race for retiring Rep. Joe Barton’s (R-TX 06) seat. Pounds earned 22 percent of the vote on Tuesday to state Rep. Lance Gooden’s (R) 30 percent, while Wright led retired Naval aviator Jake Ellzey (R) 45 percent to 22 percent.

MONEY MATTERS. Rep. Pete Sessions (R-TX 32) will hold a fundraiser at the Justin Timberlake concert on March 18. Tickets start at $2,500. (Politico)
