“Four immigrant rights activists crashed a fundraiser Sunday night for” Rep. Tom MacArthur (R), “hosted by White House adviser Kellyanne Conway. One young immigrant and three activists from the advocacy group Make the Road New Jersey snuck into the Moorestown home, said organizer Nedia Morsy. The event was a private fundraiser… Attendees paid a hefty price — up to $15,000 a plate — for the event,” which “fell on the eve of the March 5 deadline ending DACA. … New Jersey is home to an estimated 22,000 DACA recipients, including some in Burlington and Ocean counties.

“Whether the activists interrupted the event is unclear. Morsy said she and the other activists made it to check-in and then performed their own ‘mic check,’ yelling ‘Dreamers are at risk’ and ‘Congressman Tom MacArthur you made a promise to protect Dreamers’ before being escorted out by police. Chris Russell, MacArthur’s campaign strategist, said they didn’t disrupt the event or interact with any of the attendees.”

Russell: “They should have just called Tom’s office to set up a meeting, so they could discuss the fact that the Congressman has consistently urged leaders in both parties to come together to find a permanent solution to protect DACA recipients.”

“DACA recipients and their supporters have repeatedly reached out to MacArthur, Morsy said, but they have not heard back.” (Asbury Park Press)
