A recent EPIC MRA poll showed state Attorney General Bill Schuette (R) is easily the best-known candidate vying for governor from either party. Schuette, with a 24 percent favorable rating, and businessman Shri Thanedar (D), viewed favorably by 18 percent of voters, were the only two candidates tested in the poll (Feb. 24-27; 600 RVs; +/- 4%) whose names a majority of voters even recognized. Former state Senate Minority Leader Gretchen Whitmer (D) and Lt. Gov. Brian Calley (R) had 13 percent and 12 percent favorability ratings, respectively. (release)

ANOTHER SHOOTING. Following the fatal shooting at Central Michigan University, former Detroit Health Director Abdul El-Sayed (D) called for, among other things, banning ‘“weapons of war,” large capacity magazines, and fire-rate modifiers; closing background check loopholes; preventing gun purchases by domestic abusers; and eliminating open carry.
