Attorney Michael Starr Hopkins (D) ended his challenge to Sen. Bob Menendez (D), citing fundraising difficulties.

Hopkins “had entered the race when Menendez still faced federal corruption charges. He initially said he would remain in the race even after the Justice Department decided not to retry Menendez after a mistrial.”

“The incumbent raised $5.9 million for his re-election and entered January with $4.1 million in the bank according to Federal Election Commission filings.”
