Schuette Comes Around to GOP Debates

State Attorney General Bill Schuette (R) is proposing a series of three debates in the Republican primary. … Schuette called for the Michigan Republican Party to sponsor two debates, and said he would agree to participate in a third at the annual Mackinac Policy Conference hosted by the Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce.

“The move comes after Schuette declined to participate in a series of debates proposed by” Lt. Gov. Brian Calley (R). A Calley spokesman said “Calley had proposed seven debates but is willing to settle for four.” (MLive)

ON THE TEAM. Former state Senate Minority Leader Gretchen Whitmer (D) is hiring regional field directors and organizers. Whitmer Spokeswoman Annie Ellison: “Grassroots organizing is a big priority for the campaign and we are excited to be expanding our field team.” (Hotline reporting)

Calley’s campaign director, Matt Gibb, declined to serve as a consultant on Flint’s economic development team. (MLive)
