State Attorney General Adam Laxalt (R) said Thursday he “plans to ask” term-limited Gov. Brian Sandoval (R) for his endorsement. Laxalt: “I plan on meeting with him in the next few weeks, and I look forward to it. I hope to have his support.”

He also faulted Clark County Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani (D) for politicizing the fatal shooting of 17 people at a Florida high school and reiterated he has “no independent authority whatsoever” to implement a ballot initiative to require the FBI to conduct background checks on gun owners. “Question 1 was simply not drafted properly.” (Las Vegas Review-Journal)

State Treasurer Dan Schwartz (R) “has previously said he thinks Laxalt and … Sandoval need to find a way to implement the checks because voters approved them.”

Giunchigliani “described herself as the only gubernatorial candidate to support Question 1 before it passed.” Clark County Commission Chairman Steve Sisolak (D), “whose campaign pointed to his calls for background checks in a 2013 interview, promised to take immediate action to ensure the ballot measure is implemented.” (Nevada Independent)
