Former New York Jets center Nick Mangold (R) “will not be making a foray into New Jersey politics. At least not yet. Amid recent reports” that he “was considering running for” retiring Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen’s (R) seat, “Mangold released a short statement Thursday shooting down any potential campaign.”

Mangold: “I am not at a place where I could commit to that. … However I do appreciate the support that was given in my short period of possibly thinking about running for Congress.” (Morristown Daily Record)

President Trump only narrowly carried the northern New Jersey district in 2016. Democrats have a well-funded recruit in ex-Navy helicopter pilot Mikie Sherrill (D), who will be the likely nominee.
