“Democratic Party committees from three counties in Central New York voted Wednesday night to designate” Syracuse University professor Dana Balter (D) as the candidate to take on Rep. John Katko (R) in November. “Balter is a visiting assistant teaching professor at Syracuse University who has been active with the CNY Solidarity Coalition, a grassroots progressive group. The Democratic committees held a joint designating forum … in which Balter and” businesswoman Anne Messenger (D) addressed the group as finalists before the vote. (Syracuse Post-Standard)

National Democrats are searching for a higher-profile name to challenge Katko but have so far not found one.
