Former state Supreme Court Chief Justice Bob Young (R) ended his campaign to face Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D).

“Young’s departure from the race comes just as it would have wrapped up its fundraising period for the end of 2017 though it was not known if that played a role. The loss of Young means the Republicans go into the race without a high-profile candidate at present to challenge Stabenow, who is running for her fourth term.”

Businessman John James (R) and businessman Sandy Pensler (R) are running for the GOP nomination. (Detroit Free Press)
