Gov. Eric Greitens (R-MO) headlined “Gov. Kim Reynolds’ (R) Harvest Festival fundraiser in Des Moines, her first major public fundraiser since becoming governor last May.” At the event, “Greitens made clear his opposition to [NFL] players kneeling during the anthem,” pointing to that issue as a reason the state needs “cultural leaders” such as Reynolds.
“In her own remarks, Reynolds implored supporters to help her keep the state in Republican hands and avoid reversing the far-reaching legislation passed earlier this year.” (Des Moines Register)
She called for those present at the fundraiser to “double down” in their efforts for her campaign, saying, “As we all know as we travel the state, the liberals are unhinged and they are out for us.” (Radio Iowa)
FEELING CONFIDENT. At the fundraiser, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) told the nearly-700-person crowd “he thinks next fall’s election will be ‘an abundant harvest’ for Republicans in Iowa,” while other Republicans present also expressed confidence at the party’s chances for holding the governorship in 2018.
