Ex-State Agency Head Launches Bid for Rokita’s Seat

Steve Braun has ties to Mike Pence and Eric Holcomb.

Former Workforce Development Department Commissioner Steve Braun (R) will run for the seat Rep. Todd Rokita (R) is leaving open for his Senate bid. “With ties to both” Vice President Mike Pence and Gov. Eric Holcomb (R), “Braun could have formidable support from state party leaders.” Former Pence Aide Diego Morales (R) “has also announced he is seeking the seat. … For most of his career, he was a business consultant who created his own firm. Braun was elected to the Indiana House in 2012, where he served two sessions until he was appointed to lead Workforce Development in 2014.” (AP)

The seat leans heavily Republican. His brother, state Rep. Mike Braun (R), is running for Senate.
