Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D) and Rep. Kevin Cramer (R), a potential Heitkamp challenger, “say they’ll join President Donald Trump in North Dakota unless there are important votes in Congress. Trump is to speak in Mandan about tax reform on Wednesday. Heitkamp spokeswoman Julia Krieger says the senator plans to travel with Trump on Air Force One.” (AP)
“Heitkamp told reporters that she opposes some of the tax policies the Trump administration has been floating, like taxing 401(k) accounts, but that she’s been in regular contact with chief economic adviser Gary Cohn and other administration officials.” (Politico)
SPEAKING OUT. Regarding Trump’s attacks on fellow Republicans, Cramer, an early Trump supporter, said, “It’s a little unhealthy, quite honestly.”
“He particularly questioned Mr. Trump’s attacks on” Sens. Jeff Flake and John McCain (R-AZ) in their home state of Arizona.
“You have a small margin, and punching two of them in the nose in their home state makes it pretty difficult” to enact a GOP agenda in the upper chamber, he said. (Wall Street Journal)
