“FBI agents searched the office of” Rep. Duncan Hunter’s (R) “campaign treasurer in February, seizing computer equipment and documents for their investigation into whether” he “misused campaign funds. The search warrant … which was unsealed in March, said agents were looking for evidence showing whether Hunter’s campaign funds were used for personal reasons, whether there was a scheme to defraud a bank over video game purchases, and whether Hunter’s campaign finance reports were falsified to ‘impede or influence’ FBI and House Ethics Committee inquiries into his use of campaign funds.” (Los Angeles Times)

Hunter holds a Republican-heavy district based in San Diego that backed President Trump by 15 points, but Democrats have made him a 2018 target and several candidates have lined up against him.

Former Navy SEAL Josh Butner (D), on the FBI search: “Hunter has proven he is unable to focus on his constituents that need a leader in Washington who is 100% focused on delivering results for the people of East County.” (release)
