State Rep. Joe Trillo (R) will “make an announcement before the first of the year” as he explores a run for governor, he said in an interview outside of an RGA reception in Providence, R.I. on Friday.

Trillo, the honorary chair of President Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign in the state, said he “would hope” Trump “or one of his people would” support his potential gubernatorial campaign but he “had no discussion with him to that level.

Trillo said among his potential GOP opponents “nobody has the legislative experience that I have, 16 years serving.” That includes state House Minority Leader Patricia Morgan (R), whom he described as “basically in her infancy of learning” about the legislative process since taking office in 2011.
