Former state Rep. Mark Hutton (R) said “he is weighing a run. … He said he would prefer to make a decision ‘sooner rather than later’ and that he expects the call sometime in July at the latest. … He indicated … that he would attempt to stake out a middle ground between the party’s moderate and conservative wings.”

Hutton: “I am looking pretty seriously at whether or not I want to take a run at that office.” (Wichita Eagle)

KOBACH TO THE DRAWING BOARD. Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach (R) was slated to “speak at the Faith and Freedom Picnic in Johnson County on Saturday that was promoted with the slogan ‘Olathe Lives Matter!’ … David Lightner, chairman of the Olathe Republican Party, said that each year the party includes a line in its invitations ‘that gets a little humor out there,’ and that the party ‘didn’t mean anything’ by the apparent reference to the Black Lives Matter slogan that has been used by activists to protest police shootings of African-Americans.” (Kansas City Star)
