Ashooh lost the GOP primary to Guinta last year.

Rich Ashooh (R), a 2016 NH-01 candidate, is "President Trump’s nominee to be assistant commerce secretary heading up export administration." In 2016, Ashooh unsuccessfully challenged former Rep. Frank Guinta (R) in the GOP primary. "Since that campaign, Ashooh has been director of economic partnerships at" the University Systems of New Hampshire. (New Hampshire Union Leader)

Former South Hamp­ton Po­lice Chief Ed­die Ed­wards (R), meanwhile, declared his bid in April for Rep. Carol Shea-Porter's (D) seat.
