Two letters posted Wednesday on the” Federal Election Commission’s “website question” attorney Doug Applegate’s (D) “campaign about the payments, including two previously-undisclosed media buys in 2016. Both expenditures — $211,868 on Oct. 27 and $93,629 on Oct. 3 — were paid to The New Media Firm in Washington, D.C.” when he was challenging Rep. Darrell Issa (R).

Applegate is again challenging Issa, as is environmental lawyer Mike Levin (D).

“A response to the inquiries is due May 30, the letters say. Since Jan. 1, 2015, the FEC has issued Applegate’s campaign nine letters addressing concerns including mathematical errors, identification of contributors, failure to adequately describe expenditures and discrepancies in accounting for loans Applegate made to the campaign. The campaign missed deadlines for response to five of the FEC’s letters.” (San Diego Union-Tribune)
