2014 gubernatorial nominee Paul Davis (D) said Thursday he’s considering a bid for the seat Rep. Lynn Jenkins (R) will vacate in 2018. Davis, a former state representative who narrowly lost to Gov. Sam Brownback (R) two years ago, “said he was encouraged by the results Tuesday of” the KS-04 special election where civil rights attorney James Thompson (D) … lost to Rep.-elect Ron Estes (R).

“Two Republicans, including state Sen. Steve Fitzgerald … and Vernon James Fields … along with one Democrat, Kelly Don Standley … have already officially filed for the race.” (Lawrence Journal-World)

“The 2nd District in eastern Kansas is not overwhelmingly Republican, but Davis carried the congressional district by 6 points in the race against Brownback.” (Topeka Capital-Journal)

“Davis had been widely discussed as a potential gubernatorial candidate in 2018 after an unsuccessful attempt to oust” Brownback. “He said he will spend the next two months traveling the district. He expects to make a formal announcement in the summer.” (Wichita Eagle)
