McDonnell picks Gillespie for Va. guv

Former GOP Vir­gin­ia Gov. Bob Mc­Don­nell en­dorsed Re­pub­lic­an Ed Gillespie’s bid for gov­ernor on Monday, call­ing him “a con­ser­vat­ive lead­er with a vis­ion and policy agenda that can unite all Vir­gini­ans.” Gillespie’s cam­paign also re­leased a list of 35 of­fice­hold­ers, in­clud­ing former Rep. Randy For­bes and state le­gis­lat­ors, back­ing his cam­paign in ad­vance of the June primary.

A head start on campaign for GOPers

Save the Chil­dren Ac­tion Net­work an­nounced Monday a $150,000 di­git­al and TV ad buy ur­ging GOP mem­bers of the House Budget Com­mit­tee to pro­tect fund­ing for early learn­ing pro­grams such as Head Start. Di­git­al spots will run for two weeks in the dis­tricts of sev­en Re­pub­lic­ans on the com­mit­tee, in­clud­ing Reps. Dav­id Valadao of Cali­for­nia and Dav­id Young of Iowa.

Weaver soars to $137K after King tweet

Demo­crat Kim Weaver, who is con­sid­er­ing a re­match against Rep. Steve King in 2018, told the Sioux City Journ­al that she has raised $137,000 since King tweeted on March 12: “We can’t re­store our civil­iz­a­tion with some­body else’s ba­bies.” In her 2016 bid against King, Weaver raised a total of $159,000.
