Gov. Gina Raimondo (D) confirmed in a brief interview at the National Governors Association meeting in Washington that she does “plan to run” to seek another term in 2018 but didn’t offer a timeline on an official kickoff. (Hotline reporting)

FAST FORWARD. Rep. Jim Langevin (D-02) “said he wouldn’t rule out a run for governor of Rhode Island in the future,” but not against Raimondo.

Langevin: “I certainly wouldn’t rule out a run for governor at some point in the future, but right now I’m focused on doing my job in Congress.”

“Langevin’s soonest chance for a gubernatorial run would be in 2022 – the same year Rhode Island’s two U.S. House seats could be reduced to one due to stagnant population growth.” (WPRI)
