Five Democrats said Wednesday they would consider a bid for the seat Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) is vacating next cycle to run governor: state Sen. Jacob Candelaria, Bernalillo County Commissioner Maggie Hart Stebbins, state Rep. Javier Martínez and Albuquerque city councilors Pat Davis and Ken Sanchez.
On the GOP side, Lt. Gov. John Sanchez (R) said “some key Republicans” are encouraging him to enter the race. (Albuquerque Journal)
Also mulling a bid is Terry Brunner (D), a former aide to Sen. Jeff Bingaman (D). State Democratic Party Chairwoman Deb Haaland (D) said she wouldn’t rule out a run.
