“President-elect Donald Trump ripped the election recount on Saturday, calling it ‘a scam’ and ‘ridiculous’ and noting that Hillary Clinton had already conceded.” (CNN) Trump, irritated by the recount efforts, falsely claimed he would have won the national popular vote if not for “millions of people who voted illegally,” and tweeted unproven claims that there had been “serious voter fraud” in Virginia and New Hampshire, two states where he lost narrowly, and California, where he was blown out by Clinton.
TRUMP WINS MICHIGAN. The Michigan Secretary of State posted results Wednesday showing Trump as the state’s winner. He beat Hillary Clinton by 10,704 votes, making it the closest presidential contest in the state’s history. (Detroit Free Press)
RECOUNT EFFORTS. “Nearly three weeks after Election Day…Clinton’s campaign said on Saturday that it would participate in a recount process in Wisconsin incited by” Green Party candidate Jill Stein “and would join any potential recounts in two other closely contested states, Pennsylvania and Michigan.” (New York Times)
“Michigan’s Board of Canvassers is scheduled to certify the state’s election results at 2 p.m. Monday. After those results are certified, Stein has until Wednesday to request a recount through the Secretary of State.” (Detroit Free Press) All recount efforts would need to be done by Dec. 19, when the Electoral College will meet.
“Stein has hired former Michigan Democratic Party chairman Mark Brewer as her attorney in a statewide hand recount she plans to request by Wednesday’s deadline, according to a campaign official.” (Detroit News)
STEIN FUNDRAISING. As of Monday morning, Stein had raised just over $6.2 million dollars to a goal of $7.0 million for the recount effort, according to her campaign website. The amount is far more than Stein raised for her actual presidential campaign.
