At Aurora County Republican Party’s annual Lincoln Day fundraiser, “event emcee Duane Wolbrink introduced” state Attorney General Marty Jackley (R) and state Rep. Mark Mickelson (R) “as ‘candidates for governor’ in 2018.”

“Both Republicans let Wolbrink’s introduction slide by without mention during their respective speeches, but later reiterated they had not formally announced any intentions to run in 2018 when Gov. Dennis Daugaard’s (R) second and final term expires.”

Jackley, after their speeches: “I get introduced a lot of different ways. … I think AG sometimes stands for ‘Aspiring Governor.’” He also said: “We’ve made no formal announcements yet, but I’m certainly openly indicating we’re laying groundwork. … I mean, I’m at Lincoln Day dinners and I’m termed out.”

Mickelson: “That’s what you get for not writing your own bio.” (Mitchell Daily Republic)
