A Monmouth University poll (May 12-14; 505 LVs; +/-4.4%) shows former Randolph Mayor Tom MacArthur (R) leading former Bogota Mayor Steve Lonegan (R) with 46 percent of the vote to Lonegan’s 35 percent. The results are a major turnaround from a March 11 poll in which Lonegan received 41 percent and MacArthur only received 2 percent.

MacArthur is backed by the Republican Party in both counties in the district, and has been endorsed by retiring Rep. Jon Runyan and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Lonegan had a name-recognition advantage early on after an unsuccessful Senate run against Sen. Cory Booker (D). The winner of the Republican primary will face Burlington County Freeholder Aimee Belgard (D). (Roll Call)
