Rep. Eric Cantor (R) is still expected to attend a fundraiser for state Sen. Lee Zeldin (R), despite losing his reelection bid on Tuesday. Zeldin could replace Cantor as the only Jewish Republican in Congress, if he wins the Republican nomination over former SEC prosecutor George Demos (R) and unseats Rep. Tim Bishop (D).

“We certainly have Jewish support and Lee has put out early on a very pro-Israel position,” Zeldin campaign manager Chapin Fay said. “Eric Cantor was the lone Jewish voice in the House, and that puts a little bit more importance on Lee.” (Newsday)
