National Journal wrapped up its week of live events at the Democratic National Convention on Thursday morning with “View from the Top: A Conversation with Campaign Managers and Senior Strategists.”

The panel of Democrats spoke positively of the convention to this point. All agreed that President Obama had struggled thus far to generate the type of enthusiasm he needed from his base. Instead, he has participated in an expensive “food fight” thus far, said Laura Quinn, CEO of Catalist. If Coke and Pepsi spent all their money on ads saying the other drink was poison, she asked, would anyone want to drink any soda ever again?

But Bill Clinton’s speech and the positive presentation of “Obamacare” and progressive social issue stances has helped frame the Democrats platform in a more appealing light to a broader audience, the panel agreed.
