Ex-Hewlett Packard exec. Steve Shields (D), who had claimed to be the “only candidate” on the Dem side who has actually created jobs in OR, announced via his campaign web site that he was dropping his bid. Shields “described his candidacy as a long shot and said his lack of campaign experience was a factor in his decision to drop out” (Russell, Oregonian, 11/20).
