White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said that President Obama will host House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., and Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., for lunch at the White House at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
“The president looks forward to discussing all issues, foreign and domestic,” Gibbs said, specifying only that the economy and spending would be topics of discussion.
He said that the administration will not be releasing details about the president’s budget to the three Republicans and that they will receive the spending plan when reporters do on Monday.
Obama last met with Republican leadership on November 30, after the self-described midterm “shellacking.” He also had a private lunch with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., last Friday, Gibbs said.
