West Wing Today: Slurpee Summit 2.0

Updated at 10:37 a.m. on February 9.

All eyes will be on the White House at noon as House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., and Republican Whip Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., come for lunch with President Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and Chief of Staff William Daley. Aside from a lunch with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., that went unannounced by the White House last week, the president hasn’t invited the Republican leadership over since November 30, the date of the famous post-election “Slurpee Summit.”

Elsewhere in the schedule, Biden will meet with Prime Minister Borut Pahor of Slovenia, and both Obama and Biden will meet with Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Today’s schedule, via the White House:

10:15 a.m.: The president and the vice president receive the Presidential Daily Briefing.

10:45 a.m.: The president meets with senior advisers.

12:30 p.m.: The president, the vice president and Chief of Staff Daley will have lunch with Speaker Boehner, Republican Leader Cantor, and Republican Whip McCarthy in the Private Dining Room.

1:45 p.m.: Briefing by press secretary Robert Gibbs.

2:30 p.m.: The vice president meets with Prime Minister Pahor.

3:45 p.m.: The president and the vice president meet with Secretary of State Clinton.
