War Begins and Ends in Afghanistan, Obama Says

President Obama framed the end of the U.S. action in Afghanistan as closing a “decade under the dark cloud of war” on Tuesday.

“As we emerge from a decade of conflict abroad and economic crisis at home, it is time to renew America,” Obama said in excerpts of remarks he will deliver in a televised address to the nation from Afghanistan. “This time of war began in Afghanistan, and this is where it will end.”

Obama's speech is expected at 7:30 p.m. EDT.
