The state dinner for Chinese President Hu Jintao is a huge affair, so big that it expanded beyond the State Dining Room into the Blue and Red rooms on the first floor of the White House.

Former Presidents Clinton and Carter will be there, but not George H.W. Bush, America's first envoy to what was then known as Red China.

Corporate big shots? Steve Ballmer of Microsoft, Greg Brown of Motorola, Lloyd Blankfein of Goldman Sachs, Jamie Dimon of JPMorgan Chase, Muhtar Kent of Coca-Cola, Robert Iger of Disney, Jeff Immelt of General Electric, James McNerney of Boeing, Andrew Liveris of Dow Chemical, James Murren of MGM Mirage, Patricia Woertz of Archer Daniels Midland, John Thornton of HSBC North America, and David Rubenstein of the Carlyle Group top the list of business leaders. Wendi Murdoch, wife of News Corp.'s Rupert Murdoch, is also on the list of attendees.

Secretaries of State? Hillary Rodham Clinton, Madeleine Albright, Henry Kissinger, and George Shultz are on the list.

Entertainers? Martial arts actor Jackie Chan is attending, as first reported by National Journal. So is Barbra Streisand and B.D. Wong of Law & Order. Herbie Hancock, the jazz musician, is performing.

James Fallows of The Atlantic, National Journal's sister magazine, will be there. But he's also joined by two New York Times columnists, Nick Kristof and Tom Friedman. The Washington Post's David Ignatius made the list.

Cellist Yo Yo Ma and architect Maya Lin help round out the arts guests. Vogue Editor Anna Wintour adds plenty of glamour.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is there, as is Chicago Mayor Richard Daley—the brother of White House chief of staff William Daley, who is also there.

The White House counts the following as human rights invitees: Kenneth Roth, Executive Director of Human Rights Watch; Bette Bao Lord, chairman emeritus of Freedom House; Rep. David Wu, D-Ore.; and Kristof.
