Report: Reggie Love, Obama's Personal Aide, Leaving White House

Reggie Love, President Obama’s personal aide whom the president has referred to as a “little brother,” is leaving the White House before the end of the year, The Washington Post reported.

Love, the 6’5” former Duke basketball and football star, applied for an internship in then-Sen. Obama’s office in 2006 after being cut from the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys, according to a 2008 New York Times profile of Love.

Obama and Love have grown close since then. Love, known as the president's "body man," keeps Obama on schedule and always has a stock of pens, protein bars, and Advil on hand, according to the profile.

The two have also bonded over a fondness for sports. Love went to Duke to play football and walked on to the basketball team, helping the Blue Devils win the 2001 NCAA championship. Love and Obama had a tradition of playing basketball on primary days during the 2008 campaign, according to news reports.

The Post described Love as “a popular, gregarious figure in the White House” and said that out of several recent departures, “Love’s position may be among the most difficult for Obama to fill.”
